The industrial development of a state depends on the health and growth of its enterprises in manufacturing as well as the services sector. Inputs towards advancing industrial growth in the state in existing industrial parks or regions would help further industrial growth as well as generate employment. We have adopted a 3-step approach: Identify, Assess and Promote. As a first and immediate step, we conducted an independent, consultative study with participation by faculty members of IIT Kharagpur. The study was funded by us.
The study was completed within five months, starting from February 2022. The output of the study was presented and discussed at the Business Seminar of North American Bengali Conference 2022, held at Las Vegas USA, from 1-3 July 2022. The conference was supported by the Government of West Bengal. Highlights of the study are uploaded. View report
We intend to further help the Government of West Bengal use the findings from this study to create an investment deck for reaching out to potential investors in India, and worldwide.

Identify sectors and industries that will find the two growth hubs in West Bengal attractive as an investment destination. Our focus would be on sectors which can lead to economic vibrancy in the two hubs: where higher value-added products are required to be produced (especially for exports) and generate employment. Some of these sectors could be agro-processing industries, logistics, cold-chains, light engineering, and selected services. We would be doing a more detailed analysis.
Assess on-ground situation in the two hubs, risks and challenges (at macro- and meso-levels), as well as available policy support. We would like to research any areas of improvement that may be needed, and also try to benchmark these growth hubs with similar hubs in a few other Indian states.
Prepare a brief information memorandum from the findings of the study, as well as the consultations that will be undertaken as a part of this study. This information memorandum emanating from our study can then can be shared with you, prospective investors, and be presented in national and international fora. Thereafter, we can discuss the best way to follow up from such dissemination exercises.
